France 4 – 3 Argentina

Sometimes words aren’t enough. The fact that this one was ‘wasted’ on merely a last 16 match is a travesty. It could easily have been the final. Regardless of the punches traded, you’ve also got the goal of the tournament, supplied by Benjamin Pavard to make it 2-2. Watch it in slow motion with the camera angle down the trajectory of the ball and weep like a child. Yes, France were 4-2 up when Sergio Agüero scored Argentina’s third goal in the 93rd minute, but this doesn’t explain that they *still* had a chance to equalise after that happened, somehow. They genuinely nearly levelled the game. Probably best they didn’t, as the unfettered brilliance on display from both teams was all a bit too much to cope with.
