The first game of the seasons often throws up some dross, almost as if the players aren’t really with it yet. Conversely, the first game of the season often throws up some belters, almost as if the players aren’t really with it yet. I don’t need to tell you that this one falls into the latter camp. I suspect you can’t think of many seven-goal games that have been rubbish (unless your team loses 7-0, I suppose). Pre-Salah and when Alexis Sánchez was any good; Arsène Wenger coming to an end, Jürgen Klopp beginning his journey; this Sunday afternoon treat proved to be a microcosm of the season, what with the two teams finishing within a point of each other.
