Italy 3 – 2 Brazil

To quote the Sugarcubes; this wasn’t supposed to happen. The 1982 edition of the Brazil squad were (and are) largely regarded as a rival to the legendary 1970 team in terms of greatness. At this point in the tournament, they had won every game they had played, including their previous match up against fiercest rivals Argentina. In contrast, Italy had drawn three matches in the first round and barely scraped through to the second, and Paulo Rossi had yet to score a goal in four matches. As you can see, he turned that around here, almost single-handedly knocking the Bazilians out of the competition.
