Arsenal 1 – 2 Birmingham City

Ten years after losing the League Cup final to Liverpool and Birmingham were back for another bash. In fairness, nobody really gave them much of a chance. It certainly wasn’t the Invincibles level Arsenal, but their starting line up included Jack Wilshere, Samir Nasri, Tomáš Rosický, Andrei Arshavin and Robin van Persie. Birmingham, on the other hand, featured numerous declining players well into their thirties such as Stephen Carr, Barry Ferguson and Lee Bowyer. But then when you’ve got Wojciech Szczęsny in goal, you’re never too far away from something calamitous. And so it was.
