At the time of writing, this remains the last time Villa won anything. But you’d have to say they did it in rather convincing fashion. Another notable instance is two future home nation managers in attendance; Gareth Southgate on the winning side and the late, great Gary Speed turning out for the losers. And lose Leeds certainly did, putting the wheels in motion for the end of Howard Wilkinson’s tenure. Onwards and upwards in future years for Leeds, no doubt. Ahem.
