Leeds United 3 – 1 Nottingham Forest

After infrastructure shattering relegations, this was the last top flight meeting between Leeds and Forest until 2022. For clubs with such rich and successful histories, you’d have to say that 23 years is a long time to wait. Without trying to be disrespectful, the fact that Carlton Palmer was on the Forest teamsheet points to long-forgotten, Graham Taylor 90s era. Forest by this point were already in huge decline, but Leeds still managed to cram in a Champions League semi final against Valencia in 2001 before it spiralled out of control. So much so that ‘doing a Leeds’ became a common part of English football vernacular. But they’re both deservedly back now, so good luck to them.
