Everton 3 – 1 Rapid Vienna

To date, this has been Everton’s only European success. You never want to be harsh on people, but I don’t think any sane and rational person would be putting money on that changing any time soon, what with the Toffees’ last domestic success being in 1995. With some of these youngsters they’ve got these days, it’s very difficult to explain the success of Everton in the 1980s. If you consider the fall from grace of the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry City and Nottigham Forest, it’s perhaps worth reflecting that it could be a lot worse than it currently is (even if it is pretty bad).
