Things were a bit weird in 2004. Certainly for Leeds. The team who had reached the Champions League final not that long ago were all of a sudden not very good, and this result was actually a bit of a surprise. Even in this match they had to wait for City to do them a favour by conceding a penalty. What wasn’t a surprsie was when they eventually got relegated at the end of the season. That story is well documented but for the Mancs – they only had to wait a few more years for things to pick up. Ish. It wasn’t instant, but the future was certainly less gloomy than Leeds’.
