Liverpool 9 – 0 Crystal Palace

Don’t be going thinking that the gap between the top and bottom of the English top flight is a modern thing – in 1989 Liverpool were league runners up (thanks to nutsing it up against Arsenal the season prior) and Palace had just been promoted. But nine – nil?! Bit harsh. The Eagles would go on to have their revenge at the end of the season by defeating the Reds in an absolute facemelter of an FA Cup semi final, but this was a day to forget for Stevie Coppell’s – frankly – invisible army.
